Viviane Reding was born in Esch, Luxembourg, in 1951. She is married and has three children.
Education and Early Career
Reding earned her degree from the Sorbonne University in Paris. Subsequently, she worked as a journalist for Luxemburger Wort, a prominent newspaper in Luxembourg.
Political Career
Reding's political journey began in 1979 when she was elected to the Luxembourg Parliament. She served as a member of the European Parliament from 1989 to 1999. During her tenure, she held the position of Vice President of the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) from 1995 to 1999.
European Commissioner
In 1999, Reding was appointed as the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth, Media, and Sports. Since 2004, her portfolio has included the Information Society and Media.
