Election as Mayor of Zagreb
Following the resignation of former Mayor Milan Bandić amidst a scandal, Pаvić was elected to the position on March 1, 2002. She garnered support from a coalition of SDP and Liberal Democratic Party members. Upon taking office, Pаvić expressed her intention to continue the development projects initiated by her predecessor.
Conflict with Milan Bandić
Pаvić's term as Mayor was marred by constant conflicts with Bandić, who was appointed as one of her two deputies. She publicly accused him of electoral irregularities. In May 2003, it was reported that Bandić had formed an alliance with the right-wing opposition in an attempt to discredit Pаvić.
In March 2004, Pаvić demanded a public apology from Bandić for allegedly insulting her mother in a "vulgar and highly primitive" manner. She stated that she had previously refrained from publicizing such incidents for the sake of the city and the coalition, but felt she could no longer remain silent.
Electoral Agreement and Bandić's Return
Eventually, an agreement was reached whereby Pаvić would not seek re-election. However, Bandić maneuvered to have early elections, which were held on May 15, 2005. Bandić successfully reclaimed the mayoralty, marking the end of Pаvić's tenure as head of Zagreb.
