Early Life and Education

Vojtěch Hynais, a renowned Czech artist, graphic designer, and interior designer, was born into a family of Czech tailors who had relocated to Vienna. His father's reluctance to send his children to German schools led to Hynais receiving his early education at home. In 1871, he enrolled in the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, where he pursued his artistic studies.

Artistic Journey in Italy and France

From 1874 to 1875 and again in 1877, Hynais traveled to Rome to further his artistic education. He eventually completed his studies in Paris in 1883, where he also married. His time in Italy had a profound influence on his work, as he primarily painted religious and mythological subjects.

Artistic Accomplishments in Prague

Upon his return to Prague, Hynais played a significant role in the decoration of the National Theater. He created the grand curtain and the paintings "Peace" and "Allegory of Spring, Summer, and Autumn." He also contributed to the decoration of the Pantheon in the National Museum.

Collaboration with Sèvres and Notable Honors

From 1889 to 1892, Hynais served as the chief graphic designer for the renowned porcelain manufacturer Sèvres. His talent as a portraitist and his adherence to the principles of naturalism gained him widespread recognition. Hynais was honored with the French Legion of Honour (Officer), as well as the title of honorary doctor of arts. He was also a member of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Literature, and Arts and received the Fügner Gold Medal.
