Early Career: From SCK'83 to Ajax

Youssef Hersi's football journey began at the youth academy of SCK'83, before moving on to the youth team of Go Ahead Eagles. His exceptional talent eventually led him to the prestigious Ajax academy in Amsterdam.

Debuting for Ajax and Loan Spells

On November 26, 2000, Hersi made his first-team debut for Ajax, coming on as a substitute against Utrecht. Despite a 2-1 defeat, he made nine appearances for the club in the 2000/2001 season. Subsequently, he was loaned out to NAC Breda, where he established himself as a regular in the 2001/2002 season, scoring three goals in 33 appearances.

Breakthrough at NEC

Hersi's next loan spell was at NEC, where he made his debut in August 2002. He scored his first goal for the club in September and went on to net nine times in 30 appearances during the 2002/2003 season. Hersi's impressive performances led to a contract extension with NEC, where he spent two seasons, scoring 19 goals in 61 matches.

Transfer to Heerenveen and Vitesse

In 2004, Hersi moved to Heerenveen, making his debut in August. However, his stay was brief, and he joined Vitesse in the winter transfer window. Hersi made his Vitesse debut in January 2005, scoring his first goal for the club in February.

Stellar Season at Vitesse

The 2005/2006 season proved to be a standout for Hersi at Vitesse. In 17 matches, he netted 10 goals, helping his team finish 12th in the league standings.

Success with FC Twente

In 2007, Hersi signed a contract with FC Twente until 2010. He made his debut in August and went on to score seven goals in 25 appearances during the 2007/2008 season.

International Career

Despite being born in Ethiopia, Hersi opted to represent the Netherlands internationally. He made his debut for the Netherlands U-21 team at the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship.
