Early Life and Education

Spyros Markezinis was born in Athens, Greece. He received his law degree from the University of Athens and the John Marshall Law School.

Career in Academia and Government

In 1959, Markezinis moved to Chicago, where he taught at the University of Chicago. During the rule of the "Black Colonels" junta in Greece, he held several high-ranking government positions. From 1967 to 1971, he served as Minister of Finance. From 1971 to 1973, he was Minister of the Interior.

Prime Minister of Greece

In 1973, Markezinis was appointed Prime Minister of Greece. He also held the position of Minister of Finance during his premiership. His tenure was marked by efforts to restore stability to Greece after years of political turmoil.

Post-Premiership and Retirement from Politics

After democracy was restored in Greece, Markezinis left politics. He died in 2000.
