Nikolai Ivanovich Ageev
Early Life and EducationNikolai Ivanovich Ageev was born on April 18, 1922, in the village of Bibikovo. He completed 8th grade in 1936 and worked as a fitter at the Gorky Aviation Plant until his military service in July 1942.
Military Career
After graduating from the Gorky Tank School in 1943, Ageev participated in the Great Patriotic War from September 1943. As a lieutenant in command of a tank platoon in the 12th Guards Tank Brigade, he led a daring mission in January 1945.
Heroism at Pszemsza River
Ageev was tasked with capturing and holding a crossing over the Pszemsza River near Katowice, Poland. He successfully led his platoon across the bridge and established a defensive position. For 24 hours, the platoon fought off seven counterattacks, destroying enemy equipment and personnel.
Recognition and Decorations
For his exceptional courage and heroism, Ageev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on April 10, 1945, along with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal. He received numerous other decorations throughout his military career, including the Order of the Red Banner, Order of the Patriotic War (I and II степени), Order of the Red Star, and Order "For Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the USSR" (III степени).
Post-War Service
After the war, Ageev continued his military service. He graduated from the Armored Forces Military Academy in 1955 and held various command positions. He also served as a lecturer at the Tactics Department of the Armored Forces Military Academy.
Retirement and Death
Ageev retired from the army as a Major General in 1984 and lived in Moscow. He passed away on July 7, 1988, and was laid to rest at the Vagankovskoye Cemetery.
