Academic Career

From 1853 to 1862, Jovanović taught philosophy of law and history of jurisprudence at the Belgrade Lyceum. In 1862, he became the head of the police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia.

In 1865, Jovanović became a member of the Court of Cassation, and in 1875 he became its president. From 1884 to 1894, he served as a member of the State Council, an advisory body on legislative matters.

Historical Writings

Jovanović also authored numerous historical works, including:

- Obrazi iz obšte istorijie (Sketches from General History, Novi Sad, 1860)

Legacy

Jovanović's diary is considered a valuable source for understanding the social and political life of Serbia in the second half of the 19th century. Despite his efforts to write a comprehensive history of Serbia, his work in this area was not considered a success.
