Biography of Nikolai Levchenko
Nikolai Alexandrovich Levchenko was born on October 16, 1979. He is a Ukrainian politician and the secretary of the Donetsk City Council. Levchenko is also known for his statement that there should be only one official language in Ukraine, which is Russian. However, he is criticized by his political opponents for being a Ukrainianphobe.
Levchenko has a diverse educational background. He graduated from the Historical Faculty of Donetsk National University in 2001, specializing in International Relations. He also obtained a degree in Law from Donetsk Institute of Internal Affairs in 2003. Additionally, he holds a PhD in Historical Sciences, which he earned in 2003.
Levchenko started his career as a history teacher at School No. 72 in Donetsk from 2001 to 2003. He then ventured into politics and government service. He served as a deputy of the Kuibyshev District Council of Donetsk from 1998 to 2002. In 2001, he became the first deputy chairman of the Donetsk Regional Organization of the Party of Regions. Levchenko was elected as a deputy of the Donetsk City Council in March 2002 and later served as the head of the public relations department of the Donetsk City Council in 2003.
Levchenko's involvement in politics continued as he became the secretary of the Donetsk City Council for the 4th, 5th, and 6th convocations, in 2004, 2006, and 2010 respectively. He also held the position of deputy chairman of the Donetsk Regional Organization of the Party of Regions in 2008.
In December 2012, Levchenko was elected as a member of the Ukrainian Parliament, representing the Party of Regions in the 7th convocation. He was a member of the Committee on Legal Policy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
In addition to his political career, Levchenko has been involved in various public initiatives. He has been an advocate for the protection of voters' rights in Donetsk during the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2004 and 2006. Levchenko has also been actively involved in defending the Russian language and opposing the glorification of the fighters of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. Furthermore, he has organized annual reports by city council members to the electorate since 2007.
Levchenko has also demonstrated his commitment to humanitarian causes. He facilitated the delivery of humanitarian aid to Tskhinvali during the Georgian-Ossetian conflict in 2008. He has also been involved in archival research to commemorate the miners who died defending Odessa in 1941. Levchenko was a co-founder of the literary society "Stoylo Pegasa," which erected a monument to Sergei Yesenin in Donetsk.
