Early Life and Education
Born in 1924, Shamardan Esetov was a distinguished political figure in Kazakhstan. He completed his studies at the Kazakh Mining and Metallurgy Institute in 1949.
Geological Career
Esetov commenced his professional journey as a geologist with the Jezkazgan Geological Exploration Expedition. Rising through the ranks, he became the chief engineer and later the deputy minister of geology for the Kazakh SSR in 1960. From 1961 to 1965, he served as the minister of geology.
Academic and Scientific Contributions
In 1967, Esetov was elected as president of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR. Concurrently, he directed the Institute of Geological Sciences. He made significant contributions to geological research and the development of the geological service in Kazakhstan.
Ministerial Appointments
Esetov returned to the role of minister of geology in 1974. Throughout his tenure, he actively supported scientific advancements and the exploration of Kazakhstan's mineral resources.
Later Career and Legacy
After retiring from government in 1978, Esetov continued his academic pursuits as a professor and head of the department at the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute until his passing in 1994.
Honors and Recognition
Esetov's remarkable achievements were recognized with the Lenin Prize (1966) and the State Prize of the Kazakh SSR (1972). He received two Orders of Lenin and numerous other honors for his contributions to science and industry.
Family Connections
Shamardan Esetov was the grandfather of Galimzhan Shakhmardanovich Esenov, a prominent shareholder in Delta Bank.
