Urunbay Abdullaev: Hero of the Soviet Union
Early Life and CareerUrunbay Abdullaev was born on April 18, 1912 in Uzbekistan. After completing elementary education, he worked on a local collective farm.
Military Service
Abdullaev was drafted into the Red Army in 1943 and joined the front in May. He fought valiantly throughout the war.
Heroic Exploit
On July 18, 1944, Abdullaev and a group of ten soldiers were sent behind enemy lines near the Latvian city of Ludza. They engaged in a fierce battle with superior enemy forces while holding a strategically important height.
Presumed Dead and Posthumous Award
Many believed that the entire group had perished. However, on March 24, 1945, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR posthumously awarded Abdullaev the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for his bravery and heroism.
Survival and Captivity
In reality, Abdullaev had been captured by the Nazis after being knocked unconscious during the battle. He was imprisoned in a concentration camp near Magdeburg.
Post-War Life
After the war, Abdullaev returned to Uzbekistan and worked on a collective farm. He visited the battlefield where he had fought several times and was inducted into the Communist Party in 1965.
